Late at night on October 26, 2003, I heard my eldest son’s girlfriend on the phone say, “Damon is not breathing.” I was told the paramedics were already there and she wanted us to come right away.
My husband and I found him lying on his sofa, gone. This was the beginning of my trip down the rabbit hole – two full years of undeniable grief, which included many lonely drives in my car, wailing for things to be different.
After a dear friend let me know about a meditation class, I felt called to attend and I found it so comforting. I started taking more classes and even digging into the big metaphysical questions, like why did we exist, and where did we come from? This is when I became spiritual; gone was the judgmental woman, replaced by a peaceful one (I continue to grow in my serenity). I sought many mentors and came to learn how everything happens in divine timing. I learned I’m an empath… and then I discovered I was a channel.
And who would wish to speak through me first? None other than my son Damon, now 18 years after his Earthly transition.
“I am so proud of you. You are headed in a forward, positive direction. Know I am clapping and cheering”
We have the ability to chat. He is always there to remind me he loves me and is proud of my changes. We are also able to understand his exit; it was agreed upon before his birth and mine when he would go, and that it would help propel me into the world I was supposed to be living in.
Some mornings I am awakened to, “Hey Ma.” It is clearly my boy. The voice and the words are distinctly his:
“Hey ma, just checking in with you. You are doing much needed healing work and I see much improvement. When you think or talk of me, you do not tear up. You own it, yet let it go. I am so proud of you. You are headed in a forward, positive direction. Know I am clapping and cheering.
As for the state of the world, there is much to be corrected. The United States is in a state of chaos as are other parts of the world. The control of humanity needs to be done away with as there are brilliant minds suffocating. Do your part. Love of self is key. That is where the uprising comes from. If you love yourself, you can stand up for you and others.
Go in love my beautiful mother and teach others what you know. In love, Damon.”
I know with deep gratitude and humility that without his departure, I would not have discovered this part of my journey until, perhaps, another lifetime. I now live joyfully in confidence of love of self and of teaching it to others, which is my purpose.
